On August 29, 2024, senior officials from Sierra Leone’s National Communications Authority (NATCA) and the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation were warmly welcomed in Conakry by their counterparts from Guinea’s Regulatory Authority for Posts and Telecommunications (ARPT) and the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and the Digital Economy (MPTEN).
The purpose of the visit was to finalize the technical aspects of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sierra Leone and Guinea, aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as fiber optic interconnection, combating cybercrime, and implementing the “Free-Roaming” initiative.During the initial discussions, the Secretary General of MPTEN, representing the Guinean Minister, emphasized the significance of this partnership for both nations.
Mr. Amara Brewah, Director General of NATCA, expressed his gratitude for the progress achieved and his optimism that the MoU would soon be officially signed.Over two days, teams from both countries, including representatives from MoCTI, NaTCA, MPTEN, ARPT, SOGEB, and GUILAB, meticulously reviewed the key aspects of the agreement. On the second day, the delegation, led by ARPT’s Deputy General Manager, Mr. Adama Condé, and MPTEN’s Chief of Staff, Mr. N’Faly Sylla, toured key infrastructure sites, including those operated by SOGEB and GUILAB.
After two days of productive discussions, the teams successfully completed a draft of the agreement. The next step involves developing a detailed action plan in preparation for the official signing of the MoU by the Telecommunications Ministers of Sierra Leone and Guinea.
